Successful, savvy, and signing on to their first home

Purchasing your first home is a big step for anyone, but taking the leap at 20 years old was a life goal come true for Covella resident Jonah Blackburn.
AVID’s Covella community, located in Greenbank, is no stranger to first home buyers, who make up 50% of all their enquiries.
As the community celebrates its 1000th land settlement, some of the newest residents are an incredible example of making home ownership a reality as a young Australian.
Twenty-year-old Jonah Blackburn and his partner Caitlin made the move into their Covella home in late 2024.
“Purchasing my own home at a young age has always been a goal of mine.
“Having worked multiple jobs, saving by living at home, and taking advantage of the Queensland First Home Owner’s Grant and the $15,000 upgrade bonuses from our builder, I was able to achieve that goal,” Jonah explained.
Caitlin and Jonah settled on Covella thanks to its central location and affordability.
“It’s a bonus my family live in the area, but we couldn’t go past the value for money presented to us at Covella.”
The couple opted for one of the community’s larger blocks where they built a four-bedroom home, a decision that was made easier thanks to a string of great incentives.
“By researching the different builder incentives available, we’ve been able to upgrade our features, saving us thousands. Our home has a 7-star energy rating, ducted air-conditioning and natural gas, features like this just aren’t available in existing homes currently on the market.”
The land in Covella ranges from 297sqm to more than 2,000sqm – with the larger blocks being more than five times the size of an average new block of residential land in Greater Brisbane.
This diversity within the community allows for greater lifestyle choices for residents, whether that be first home buyers or upgraders, who make up the second largest purchaser group in Covella.
Now settled into their new address, Jonah and Caitlin are looking forward to more family time and to making the most of the community parks.
“We’re really looking forward to what this new chapter brings with it.”
