Moreton Bay Community Helps Their ‘Wildest’ Neighbours Feel at Home

A new partnership will see a regional animal welfare organisation and local developer join forces to preserve the safety and security of wildlife following construction commencing on the Élan residential community in Warner.

The developer behind Élan, AVID Property Group (AVID), has partnered with the Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation as part of its Community Stewardship Program, purposefully designed to educate the community on green space preservation and actively protect the local environment.

The Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation is a registered not-for-profit community organisation working as the first of its kind to improve outcomes for native fauna in the wild – Founding Board Member Christine West said the partnership would help the foundation achieve its mission of establishing the region’s first dedicated wildlife hospital to treat, care and rehabilitate native fauna.

“Wildlife is a distinct part of the Moreton Bay region, with a rich diversity of landscapes home to over 800 animal species – 55 of which are endangered, vulnerable or near threatened, including the beloved koala,” Ms West said.

“As one of the fastest growing regions in Australia, we desperately need a dedicated specialist wildlife hospital where injured and orphaned native animals can be treated by highly skilled veterinary professionals.

“We also need the general public to be educated on how to best care for wildlife and their habitats, which is what makes our partnership with AVID so valuable – not only will their financial support help us establish the wildlife hospital, but the Élan Community Stewardship Program will provide invaluable educational opportunities for local community members.”

AVID General Manager Queensland Anthony Demiris said the partnership exemplified AVID’s dedication to the local community and represented its ongoing support and involvement in improving outcomes for wildlife that are an invaluable part of the Moreton Bay region.

“We are committed to creating communities where people love to live, and a big part of this means supporting our residents through local environmental preservation,” Mr Demiris said.

“We established the Élan Community Stewardship Program to provide our residents with purpose-led education about the environment they are moving into and how to protect it.

“Through our partnership with the Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation, we have an opportunity to ensure the Élan community and Moreton Bay region wildlife can coexist and thrive together for many years to come.”

AVID will be donating $50,000 annually to the Foundation, bringing the total donation to $200,000.
