The Christmas Celebration That Brought 3,000 Sunshine Coast Locals Together

More than 3,000 Sunshine Coast locals came together to celebrate the festive season on Saturday 6 December for an evening of carols, community and Christmas at Harmony by AVID Property Group’s (AVID) annual Christmas by Candlelight.

Flintwood Crescent Park in Harmony came alive with festive markets, choir performances, live music and the glow of candles as families, friends and neighbours gathered in the spirit of Christmas.

AVID General Manager Queensland Anthony Demiris said this year’s event was the largest the community had ever seen, representing Harmony’s continued growth alongside the Sunshine Coast region.

“This year’s record-breaking attendance of approximately 3,000 – an increase of almost 1,000 – serves as a testament to the sustained and growing popularity of the annual event,” Mr Demiris said.

“Each year is bigger and better with locals drawn to Christmas by Candlelight for the community spirit it fosters, cementing the annual celebration as the most popular feature in our calendar of events.

“The 2025 event was an incredible opportunity to not only bring together residents and the wider community but showcase the rich bank of talent in our local community, including Australian Idol contestants Chris Ah Gee and JaZZella.”

The event also saw over 90 students perform with the Palmview State Primary School Combined Choir, with additional performances from the Palmview State Secondary School Choir and Dance Troupe.

Resident Deanne Baker who has enjoyed Christmas by Candlelight at Harmony for years said that the event has become a popular Christmas tradition for her family.

“Events like this bring everyone together while bringing us family, friends, community and fun,” Ms Baker said.

The festivities also spotlighted local businesses who participated in the Christmas markets held by the Harmony Business Hub.

Harmony local, Sienna Baker said she used the markets as an opportunity to get ahead of her Christmas shopping.

“We’ve done a lot of Christmas shopping, ticked a few people off the list,” Sienna Baker said.

“We got to the event, saw the lines and jumped in them straight away.”

During the festive season, the community also came together to support those less fortunate, donating to the Property Industry Foundation Christmas Hamper Drive and supporting BABI Youth & Family Service through a Giving Tree.

Donations of non-perishable food, hygiene products, holiday treats and gift cards for fresh produce were collected to create Christmas hampers for young people and families facing homelessness.
